The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is recruiting a GI surgical pathologist to join a growing group of 8 experienced, collegial gastrointestinal pathologists. Clinical responsibilities include sign out on gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary pathology services which include liver and pancreas transplant and consult cases. In addition to surgical pathology work, the GI pathologists participate in training medical students, residents, and fellows.
The surgical pathology laboratory processes approximately 60,000 specimens per year, and the surgical pathology division operates under a subspecialty model with shared call and frozen section coverage. Subspecialty diagnostic services are provided to the UW, VA, Children’s and Meriter Hospitals. The University also provides ample opportunities for collaborative translational research.
An MD, MD/PhD, or DO is required. Candidate must be board certified in anatomic pathology or AP/CP, and be qualified for unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Wisconsin. General surgical pathology knowledge as well as subspecialty training in gastrointestinal/liver pathology, or more than three years of sign-out experience in GI pathology, is required.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full faculty member of the department on a non-tenure track – either a clinical health sciences (CHS) or a clinician-teacher (CT) track. The CHS track academic pathologist will sign out surgical pathology cases and contribute to the teaching and research missions. The CT track pathologist is primarily a clinical pathologist, signing out surgical pathology cases and teaching trainees.
