Director of Transfusion Services

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is recruiting an academic Director of Transfusion Medicine. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in transfusion medicine and must be qualified for unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Wisconsin. Expertise in a large hospital-based Blood Bank and therapeutic apheresis is essential.

The individual will be appointed as a member of the department at the Assistant/Associate/full Professor level (non-tenure track). Successful applicant will be expected to staff the blood bank and therapeutic apheresis services, oversee QA/QC activities, contribute to the clinical supervision and teaching of residents, transfusion fellows and medical students, mentor trainees, and participate in continuing medical education programs. As the Director of Transfusion Medicine, the chosen candidate will be responsible for working with UW Health operational leadership to maintain a high quality of laboratory practice and patient care. They will be responsible for organizing faculty clinical coverage and continuing to update clinical practice standard operating procedures.

The laboratory provides approximately 55,000 blood products annually to the University of Wisconsin Medical Center with support for comprehensive programs in cancer, transplantation and trauma.
